Mobility and Transport Program

As one of the core LIFT A VET programs, our goal is to mobilize veterans by land, sea, and air. Personal mobility is extremely important to provide a sense of confidence and independence while land transport is vital to assist shuttling vets to and from medical facilities. By working with VA programs, facilities, and schedules, we can ensure veterans get the vital care they deserve. We are planning some sea mobility programs slated for Puerto Rico. LIFT A VET advocates for the U.S. military and commercial airlines to enable air mobility for vets who need to travel long distances. Puerto Rico based North Shore Aviation's president and owner is part of LIFT A VET's executive staff charged with providing inter-island transport between the Puerto Rican islands and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Funding and expansion in these areas directly improve all aspects of mobility for veterans.

Wheelchairs for Vets

When we discovered some vets were unable to obtain even a simple wheelchair, we leapt at the opportunity to uplift them and give them the gift of personal mobility. Allowing our veterans to explore beyond the confinement of their living spaces, something we take for granted, greatly improves their quality of life and gives them new hope. LIFT A VET continuously strives to not just extend our veterans' lives, but to increase their quality of life while empowering the individual.

Electric Wheelchairs: LIFT A VET has received, refurbished, and delivered many electric wheelchairs to a number of vets who are frail and unable to move their manual chairs themselves. We carefully refurbish and sanitize all components to deliver a re-purposed, highly mobile, lasting electric wheelchair. These positively change vets' lives and offer them new possibilities and individual confidence.

Manual Wheelchairs: Standard / manual wheelchairs are still welcome as some disabled vets require even minimal mobility which a manual wheelchair offers. LIFT A VET strives to increase vets' mobility any way we can to help enhance their lives and empower them. ...every little bit helps!

Ground Transport for Vets

LIFT A VET has been working to help improve the needs of veterans living in deep rural areas. Our goal is to purchase quality, properly maintained, used government vehicles. By purchasing transport vans with wheelchair lifts, we can reliably transport veterans living in remote areas to medical facilities for vital care. We look for those who are unable to drive, do not own a vehicle, or cannot use standard transportation. Since the U.S. guarantees medical care for our veterans, we believe all should have the ability to receive that care based on VA guidelines. As our fleet increases in size, we wish to offer regular schedules for those requiring transport and expand this service.

Airlift for Vets

LIFT A VET is excited with our accomplishments around these project areas. The ability to transport vets in remote areas and on remote islands allows us to reach out and uplift as many in need as possible.

Commercial Airlines: We are currently working with a few commercial airlines to make seats available to veterans so they can fly free of charge when required for medical needs. Please stay tuned as we will be accepting airline point donations from the general public and companies who wish to contribute on behalf of vets in need.

Puerto Rico Airlines (island travel): Puerto Rico based North Shore Aviation's president and owner is part of LIFT A VET's executive staff charged with providing inter-island transport between the Puerto Rican islands and the U.S. Virgin Islands. We have discovered that there are quite a number of remote veterans who live in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Culebra and Vieques (Puerto Rican islands) who do not have the funds or capability to get to a proper medical facility for vital care. Our partnership with North Shore Aviation allows us to provide extremely discounted flights or free flights for veterans in need. Thank you North Shore Aviation!

USAID Denton Program

LIFT A VET is an approved organization with the DOD HA-Transportation system managed by USAID for the Denton Program. The Denton Program allows private U.S. citizens and organizations to use space available on U.S. military cargo planes to transport humanitarian goods to countries in need, including: agricultural equipment, clothing, educational supplies, food, medical supplies, and vehicles. LIFT A VET has engaged the 315th Airlift Wing of the South Carolina Air National Guard through this program to airlift wheelchairs to Puerto Rico delivering them to veterans in need.

LIFT A VET logo - Model Community and Revitalization Program

Model Community & Revitalization Program

We at LIFT A VET believe that there should be a synergy between veterans and their communities. Even though military life does differ from civilian life, both communities have knowledge and abilities that the other can draw and benefit from. There are some unique opportunities for economic development at the former Roosevelt Roads Naval Station, Puerto Rico, and designated housing for veterans in New York and Baltimore, Maryland which could benefit from an integrated community of civilians and veterans. By revitalizing existing infrastructure, buildings, resources, a synergistic community can be developed where a renewed sense of being can be established for veterans and for the local citizens. Establishing community centers, parks, schools, and more will allow a multi-generational blending to further cement the bond veterans have to the local community and the local community has to the heroes that protected its freedoms. For these reasons, LIFT A VET monitors U.S. government agencies, the local governments, and special partners in the private sector to establish programs to hire and give preference to veteran employed, owned, operated businesses. ...to uplift veterans and their families through advocacy, education, and employment.

LIFT A VET logo - Continuum of Care for Veterans

Continuum of Care for Veterans Program

LIFT A VET embraces the concept of Continuum of Care for our veterans. By evaluating, guiding, and tracking patients through our clinics, we can provide a comprehensive set of health services encompassing all levels of care. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affects many vets due to active duty assignments and other traumatic life events which must be evaluated and treated with dignity and respect through resolution. Our goal is to identify the level of care necessary for the individual, apply critical care and observation where needed, provide a multitude of programs to ease the transition back into civilian life while monitoring the individual all the way through the process. We would be remiss if we just stopped at PTSD while many veterans are suffering from opioid / other additions, sexual trauma, and domestic violence. Careful planning and management of each patient along with the coordination of care and alignment with different levels of programs with the ultimate goal of complete wellness is the heart of our commitment to our vets. Applying a special focus to complete wellness of each individual allows for a better quality of life and can transform a patient requiring acute hospital care to one that can thrive within their community and in civilian life with a newfound purpose and much improved health. As patients progress, follow-up and wellness tracking allow us to monitor all stages of care extending into home care and housing.
